CEBU, Philippines — Police Regional Office-7 chief Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas there is now less drugs in Talisay City after unrelenting operations by police personnel.

Sinas said this during his message at the 2nd Tangke Fun Run yesterday, organized by the PNP to emphasize the intensity of the war against illegal drugs.

Sinas also said while drugs in Talisay City has decreased, his men are not taking any chances and are keeping a particular eye on Barangay Lawaan.

“Pero karon nga daghan ng nangadakpan, daghan ng nangamatay diha kay nakig-engkwentro sa pulis. So mihinay g’yud siya, in fact kung ako ipa-assess naa na sya 70 to 80% ang turnaround diha sa Talisay. After sa Tangke, nagkalat na ni sila. Nangita na ni sila ug mga lugar na huna-huna nila di maabot sa mga pulis. Didto na sila nanagan sa Lawaan kay bukid-bukid naman to gamay,” the general added.

The fun run started at around 3 a.m. Aside from the children, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas and Talisay City police chief Police Major Orlando Carag Jr. joined in the run.

Gullas assured that he will participate in any activity that the police will be conducting in the future for the good of Talisay City.

Carag emphasized his eagerness to advertise that people in Barangay Tangke are a sporty and athletics-loving bunch, despite being tagged as a barangay fraught with drugs.

“We want to advertise Tangke kasi na instead na parang laging nata-tag with shabu, that Tangke is a sports/athletics-loving people,” Carag said.

In his message, Sinas also reminded the children to avoid using illegal drugs.

“Ginadili ang paggamit ug pagbaligya og drogas,” he said, to which children answered with a big “Yes” in agreement.

Sinas stated that the activity is in relation to their community engagement to show their determination to put a stop on war against drugs.

“To emphasize that no to drugs, no to using of drugs, no to selling of drugs, no to protection of drugs. So at least karon nalipay mi daghan pu’y nangapil nga Tangke nga bisag layo sa ilaha ug na-encourage sila na mag-join. This is the second time around na nagpa-fun run mi dira sa barangay,” Sinas said.

He said drugs also victimize children.

“Mga bata kasi kaniadto gipanggamit, tapos daghan kaayo dira namaligya, mga tigulang, mga babaye, walay pili," he said.

The past several days in Talisay were marked with the death of several people, three of whom resisted arrest during a buy-bust operation and two of whom were displayed in gruesome fashion after they were executed by unidentified men. (FREEMAN)
