CEBU, Philippines — Workers who reported for work yesterday were entitled to holiday pay, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Visayas said.

Malacañang declared May 13 a special non-working holiday to enable the public to exercise their right to vote in the local and national elections.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton reminded employers to observe proper payment of wages to their employees who rendered work on election day.

Workers are entitled to additional 30 percent in their daily pay.

DOLE, in its Labor Advisory No. 07, said those who work more than eight hours shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate.

Employees who work on a special holiday that also falls on their rest day shall be paid an additional 50 percent of their daily rate for the first eight hours of work.

For overtime work on a special holiday that also falls on their day off, workers shall be paid an additional 30 percent hourly rate.

However, DOLE said the “no work, no pay” policy will apply unless there is another company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on special days.  — KBQ (FREEMAN)
