City to ask Leotek for traffic report

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Government will be asking Taiwan-based firm Leotek to submit a report for the implementation of the Intelligent Traffic System in General Maxilom corner M.J Cuenco Avenue.

Councilor Jerry Guardo said he will send a letter to the firm requesting them to submit report for the two-month long enforcement of the traffic system.

"Yes, this week. I will send communication sa ila company through their representative here in the Philippines," he told The FREEMAN.

Leotek is expected to finish the test run for the smart traffic system by the end of the month.

In December 2018, the city government tapped Leotek in order to improve the traffic system in the city since traffic has been a major concern at present.

The test run has no cost to the city government.

Leotek specializes in ‘Smart Street Lights and Smart City solutions’ involving advanced LED street lights, expandable with various sensors, cameras and others.

The said Taiwan-based firm installed CCTV cameras for the traffic authorities to monitor and analyze the situation of traffic flow.

It also enables the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) to implement non-contact apprehensions to traffic violators.

The smart traffic system reduces human resources in monitoring the traditional cameras, improvement of the accuracy in monitoring and analyzing traffic behaviors, among others.

Guardo said he has to ask update for the implementation for him and CCTO to assess their operation.

He said if the implementation of the smart traffic system is successful, they would possibly recommend to enforce it in the entire city.

"Last time nag-communicate ko nila, they have encountered problem transmitting the data from Taiwan to Cebu, I learned they plan to hand carry to bring the data here in Cebu," Guardo said. (FREEMAN)
