7 Cebu City SK councils to receive P1 million aid

CEBU, Philippines —  Seven of 80 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councils will receive P1 million each as financial assistance from the Cebu City government.

The SK councils are from barangays Talamban, Kasambagan, Sawang Calero, T. Padilla, Budlaan, Busay, and Guadalupe.

This after the City Council approved the seven resolutions of SK Federation President Jessica Resch, who also sits as ex-officio member of the council.

“The Sangguniang Kabataan Officials play a vital and indispensable role of the youth in nation-building and in promoting and protecting their physical, moral, intellectual, and social well-being,” read portion of the resolution.

Resch explained that the seven barangays were the first to complete the project proposals, in response to the query of Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia.

Talamban SK Council has set aside the aid for the creation of a study center amount to P750,000 and to convert an unused bus into a stationary library bus amounting to P250,000.

T. Padilla will use the budget for the purchase of firefighting and rescue equipment, materials for youth center, health care apparatus and kits, sports material, and bulletin board for information dissemination, while Sawang Calero will use the fund for environmental activities and to renovate a room in the barangay hall as youth office, study area, and other purposes.

On the other hand, Kasambagan will use the budget for the enhancement of their multipurpose studio, establishment of a study center program, and purchase of IT equipment.

Guadalupe is set to establish a youth multimedia activity center; Budlaan targets to establish activity and leisure office for the youth; and Busay eyes to establish a dancehall studio, techno library and SK center.

Resch said the other 73 barangays are still revising their project proposals.

Resch assured that the remaining barangays will get their budget share once they will submit their project proposals.

Allowed projects are sports development, infrastructure, environmental activities, information technology equipment, youth development, office supplies, and disaster equipment, among others.

 “It is undeniable that the 10 percent Sangguniang Kabataan Fund from the Internal Revenue Allotment of the barangay is inadequate to finance all the proposed projects and programs of the Sangguniang Kabataan,” said Resch.

Resch said she will endorse to the City Council in the coming regular sessions the charging of the financial assistance to other barangays once they will complete their proposals. —  KBQ, (FREEMAN)
