Exhibit for Captain Rupinta on death anniversary set

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  A collection of photographs and achievements will be put up in an exhibit at Ermita Sports Complex this month to commemorate the first death anniversary of slain Ermita Barangay Captain Felicisimo "Imok" Rupinta.

Efe Rupinta, acting barangay captain of Ermita, said the family and supporters want to remember Kap Imok by presenting his timeline and his achievements for the growth of the barangay.

“There will be a gallery exhibit for his timeline and achievements,” Rupinta told The Freeman.

Rupinta family visited the tomb of Kap Imok yesterday at the Queen City Memorial Garden.

On Nov. 23, Kap Imok was ambushed while he was on his way home in Barangay Yati in Liloan town with his common-law-wife Jocelyn Mendoza.

Mendoza was spared but Rupinta was declared dead on arrival after sustaining two gunshot wounds to the head.

Rupinta said the cases have been filed in court.

In June this year, the prosecutor’s office has dropped the charges filed by the police against Winefredo Miro over the death of Kap Imok for lack of probable cause.

Miro, former Cebu City Market Administrator, was accused as the alleged mastermind of the ambush.

Mendoza, in her affidavit, alleged that Miro and others "might have orchestrated the assassination of Rupinta taking into consideration the long-standing feud between Miro and Rupinta for the control and dominance of the vendors association and other sources of income in Carbon Public Market in Barangay Ermita."

Rupinta said the family and supporters of the slain barangay official continue to cry for justice since the perpetrators are still free.

However, Rupinta said they are not in a hurry to settle the case.

“Bisan og dili ASAP (as soon as possible) basta ma resolve lang ug mahatagan og hustisya iyang kamatayon aron gyud masuta ug ma imbestiga pag-ayo,” she said.

As to the update of the case, Rupinta said the family will make its statement on Kap Imok’s death anniversary. — MBG (FREEMAN)
