Cebuana killed by husband in Sweden
CEBU, Philippines — A woman from Medellin town in northern Cebu was allegedly killed by her Swedish husband last week in Stockholm, Sweden, the Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.
The husband, Steve Aron Bakre Aalam, has reportedly confessed to the crime and has been placed under the custody of Swedish authorities.
The killing reportedly happened at the couple’s house in Kista, Stockholm, Sweden at 11:30 p.m. on September 23.
However, the body of Mailyn Sinambong Aalam cannot be brought to the Philippines until authorities finish their investigation, said Migrante Central Visayas Coordinator Connie Regalado.
It was Migrante Central Visayas that helped Mailyn’s mother seek help from the Department of Foreign Affairs.
DFA has assured justice would be served as Mailyn’s family called on President Rodrigo Duterte to help in bringing Mailyn’s body immediately to the Philippines.
"The family demands an immediate investigation surrounding the death of Mailyn and is calling for the Duterte government to provide assistance in immediately repatriating Mailyn’s remains," Migrante Europe said in a statement.
Mailyn’s family revealed that there were already incidents of violence by the suspect against Mailyn and their son when they were still living in Cebu. It was in 2010 when they moved to Sweden.
DFA spokesperson Elmer Cato said DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano has assured that all necessary assistance will be extended to Mailyn’s family.
Cato said the Philippine Embassy in Norway is working with Swedish authorities, as well as the Swedish government-provided lawyer handling the case.
The embassy is also in contact with Sinambong's aunt in Norway and her mother in Medellin, Cebu. (FREEMAN)
