CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has terminated P243.3 million worth of infrastructure projects due to negative slippage among other reasons.

The terminated contracts of infrastructure projects include the P167.3 million reconstruction of Carbon Market Unit 2; P53 million road concreting drainage system in Barangay Babag and the P18 million road concreting and drainage system from Barangay Adlaon to Guba.

Assistant City Engineer Nilo Igot said several projects have been terminated because the contractors have neither started nor completed the infrastructure projects.

"By contract, naay total cost, naay corresponding timeline. Kun naay dili makaapas on time ug dili ma-deliver ang project on time, terminate gyud na kay dili ma enjoy sa residents ang supposed benefits makuha sa project,” he said.

Since these projects are already terminated, Igot said the budget allocated for the projects will be savings for the city and will be used for future projects of the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW).

Igot said there’s a possibility that the city’s Bids and Awards Committee will not include the contractor in future transactions with the city government.

There is also P39.7 million worth of infrastructure projects that will be terminated because of unresolved right of way acquisition.

The city government has also suspended about P119 million worth of infrastructure projects for lack of permits, clearances, among other reasons.

Among the suspended projects include the P23 million construction of classroom building in Barangay Sapangdaku, P23 million construction of school building in Barangay Kinasang-an, P18 million construction of school building in Barangay Mambaling, P23 million construction of school building in Barangay Lorega San Miguel and the P3.5 million rehabilitation of existing drainage in Barangay Parian.

Igot said these projects will resume once issues on clearances, permits and other issues will be resolved by the contractors.

Igot said the DEPW has already furnished the Commission on Audit on the status of these projects of the city for its information. — MBG (FREEMAN)
