Comelec to look into voter's registration

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Election Registration Board will start looking into voter’s applications on May 15 those who have objections have five days from that date to do so.

“Five days sa May 15, katong gusto pa mo-file og opposition, pwede pa. Sagad ana, di ba gyud siya residente diha, wala siyay six months of residency and sa SK wala pa siya kasulod sa edad nga 18. Pero karon malabo ang mga opposition kay hunahuna nila nga dili madayon ang elections,” said Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano.

He also said that the number of voters after the closing of registration is not the final figure of those who are qualified to vote in the coming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

“These are still considered applications. These applications are for transfer, former voter, apil pa ang SK. We still have to undergo a hearing by the Election Registration Board (ERB),” he said.

As of December 31, 2016, the number of registered voters for this year’s barangay elections was 2.7 million and 1.09 million voters for the SK elections.

Castillano said that after the ERB has gone through the applications and identified the qualified voters, election officers will start clustering them by the end of the month.

“We need the clustering because that will be the basis for the commission para pag-procure sa election paraphernalia such as ink, pila ka ballpen ang gamiton, ballot secrecy folder,” he said.

He also said that whether or not the elections would push through, the Comelec is going to prepare for the eventuality. – Maria Carmela Pasaol (FREEMAN)
