CEBU, Philippines - A construction helper was shot dead just a few meters away from his house by two unidentified assailants on-board a black motorcycle in Sitio Holy Name, Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City last Thursday evening.

The victim, Julian Ramos alias ‘Weweng’, 42, was last seen playing chess when the two suspects arrived on a motorcycle.

The back rider of the motorcycle accidentally dropped his firearm, and Ramos took this as a chance to run away but suspects went on pursuit and shot him several times.

Ruben Tamayo, a barangay tanod from Mabolo, said the victim is included in their drug watch list as a drug personality who had previously surrendered during a barangay monitoring campaign.

He added that Ramos may have been targeted because he failed to remit his illegal-drug proceeds.

According to police investigators handling the case, all allegations will be subject for validation as investigations are still on-going.

In Bogo City meanwhile, a 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed by his drinking buddies after a heated argument.

The victim was identified as Jestoni Riveral, 26, a resident of Pelaez St., Barangay Sto. Niño, Bogo City.

Investigation disclosed that at about 10 p.m., Riveral was drinking with Jeffrey Mapait, 21, a resident of Sitio Cantecson, Barangay Gairan, Bogo City, when the two got into a heated argument which resulted into a fist fight.

According to the report, Mapait left after the fight but returned moments later and suddenly stabbed Riveral on the back. The suspect allegedly used a 12.5-inch knife.

Riveral was rushed to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City for immediate medical attention and was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Center in Cebu City.

His condition is now stable.

The Bogo police conducted a pursuit operation to capture the suspect but to no avail. Investigation, however, is ongoing. — Mae Clydyl L. Avila with Mylen P. Manto(BANAT NEWS)
