Palma: Help strengthen communities this 2016

Kristine B. Quintas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma has called on Cebuanos to help nurture a “peaceful and loving community” come 2016 – one that recognizes God’s gift of life, faith, and oneness.

“We may also give to one another like by putting our gifts of talents and whatever little ways we have to be of service to the community,” Palma said.

He said everyone in a community should try to help establish camaraderie and generosity.

“Despite what happened to us in the past years, we still have many reasons to thank the Lord for. Ang atong kinabuhi ug pagtuo… we are here for a reason because God has a purpose and mission for us,” he said.

“We should also be thankful for having reached this period. We should be really thankful and grateful for the blessings of faith,” he added.

Palma reminded the faithful that the essence of celebrating the New Year is being grateful for the blessings that God has given his people.

“These are part of expression of wishes but at the heart of it thanking God and offering to God the hope of the New Year. Embrace another wonderful life and opportunity to use God’s gift for the glory of God and the community,” he said.

Palma said 2016 will be a good and blessed year for Cebu, as it hosts the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC). — /JMO (FREEMAN)
