CEBU, Philippines - A 24-year-old man was arrested by police after he allegedly set their own house on fire past 1 p.m. yesterday in Barangay Guinsay, Danao City.

Romilo Almeres Capuyan was arrested after his mother Aida, 48, a mall security guard, told police officers that her son set their house on fire.

Police Officer 2 Ronaldo Gomez, desk officer of Danao City Police Station, said that the suspect was with his mother when he was arrested.

Gomez said that the suspect might have been upset with his parents and decided to set their house on fire.

Danao City Fire Station estimated the damage of the fire to reach over P500,000.

Nobody was hurt during the incident.

The suspect is currently detained at the Danao City Police Station detention cell and will be charged with arson, said PO1 Gomez.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man was reportedly injured in a fire that hit Poblacion Ward 2, Minglanilla past 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Rizaldy Temorata, 21, sustained minor burns and scratches after he noticed that something exploded inside the house owned by a certain Roda Panogalon.

The alarm was received by Minglanilla Fire Station at 12:05 pm and was declared under control 15 minutes later.

Initial investigation revealed that a florescent lamp sparked inside the house.

The residents quickly asked for assistance but when the fire fighters arrived, the fire had already engulfed the house which was made of mixed concrete and light material.

Minglanilla Fire investigators have yet to make an assessment on the value of the damaged house.  (FREEMAN)
