CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine National Police headquarters commended the Police Regional Office-7 for being the top performer in the country in the campaign against illegal drugs and second in the campaign against loose firearms.

Deputy Chief PNP for Administration Felipe Rojas Jr. wrote a letter to PRO-7 director, Chief Superintendent Prudencio Bañas, commending him for his accomplishment.

The letter, dated August 22, 2014, acknowledges the exemplary performance of PRO-7 for its implementation of the Innovative Crime Strategy for the past nine weeks.

The letter showed that PRO-7 ranked number one in the campaign against illegal drugs, confiscating 2,002.8 grams of illegal drugs worth over P50 million in just two months.

PRO-7 also confiscated 127 unlicensed firearms from June 6 to August 10, 2014.

Rojas, in his commendation letter, praised Bañas’ “high sense of commitment, professionalism and ardent devotion” which led to the accomplishment.

On June 11, 2014, Bañas assumed as the new PRO-7 director after Chief Superintendent Danilo Constantino was transferred to Camp Crame.

Upon his assumption, Bañas pronounced an all-out war against illegal drugs throughout the region.

From January 1 to August 25, 2014, PRO-7 confiscated a total of 55,174.44 grams of illegal drugs.

The value of the confiscated illegal drugs is said to be around P53, 282,959.25 with Cebu City Police Office as the top performer in the region.  (FREEMAN)
