Foreign student falls prey to thieves

CEBU, Philippines - A  Finnish citizen who is enrolled in a flying school in Cebu has sought police assistance after he lost his belongings and money to burglars.

Toni Juani Hynynen, 27, said burglars entered his rented house in Deca Homes in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday.

Hynynen told the police he discovered the burglary when he arrived at his house at past midnight. He reportedly proceeded to the bathroom to brush his teeth and there he discovered that a window had been destroyed.

He immediately checked his belongings and found out that several of this things have been stolen, including a laptop worth P30,000; wristwatch worth P6,000; sun glasses worth P5,000; a pair of sneakers worth P1,000.

He also reportedly lost cash amounting to about P40,000.

SPO1 Frederick Eslit and PO3 Jude Salazar of the Theft and Robbery Section confirmed the burglary, but said none of Hynynen’s neighbors and even security guards of the subdivision could not provide any information relating to the incident.  (FREEMAN)
