Muslim trader seek audience with City

Marielle Shayne L. Palaubsanon/MBG - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Members of the Muslim Traders of Cebu asked the Cebu City Government why they are no longer included as traders and organizers of the nightly trade fair along Colon Street that started last night.

In a letter signed by 15 members, they requested for a dialogue with the Cebu City Government to discuss their concern.

Among those who signed was Sultan Naif Punut, Consultant of Muslim Affairs and supporter of the Bando Osmeña Oundok Kauswagan.

In this connection, Councilor Alvin Dizon proposed a resolution requesting the Market Operations Division to hold a dialogue with the Muslim Traders of Cebu to discuss and clarify their concern.

The traders said they were surprised of their exclusion as they have been part of the activity since it started in 2007.

“Naghangyo lang ta sa City Market Division nga unta in the spirit of peace, unity and good governance nga mo reach out sila aning mga Muslim, at least mapaminaw ang ilang concern” Dizon said.

Meanwhile, because of the trade fair, Colon St. corner Osmeña Blvd. up to corner Junquera St. will be totally closed to traffic while one lane from corner Junquera St. to corner Mabini St. will also be closed from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. every day effective last night until July 20.—  (FREEMAN)
