PRO-7 is best in the country

CEBU, Philippines - The Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 is named as the best PRO in the country in terms of accomplishments in the PNP’s flagship programs.

Chief Supt. Josephus Angan, Special Project Assistant to the head of the Department of Interior and Local Government revealed that PRO-7 bested other 16 police regional offices in the country in terms of operations against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, campaign against loose firearms and operations against private armed groups.

“Through the efforts of Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, PRO-7 has very good accomplishments making it as leading regional office,” Angan said.

Angan said that the organization is recruiting more uniformed and civilian personnel.

Non-uniformed personnel will be tasked to do office works while uniformed men will be deployed to the field.

“We have to increase the number of personnel in the field and not that they are performing administrative functions,” Angan said.

Meanwhile, five policemen and a non-uniformed personnel were given medals for exemplary works yesterday morning at the PRO 7 Headquarters.

Medalya ng Kagalingan was awarded to Supt. Rodolfo Albotra Jr., SPO1 Reynaldo Solante and PO3 Roderick Balili, of the Provincial Intelligence Branch- Cebu Provincial Police Office.

They were responsible for the arrest of suspected drug lord, William Mercader, in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Caputatan, Medellin last February.  Mercader is considered as a level one drug pusher who can sell at least one kilo of illegal drugs a week.

Confiscated during the raid were several packs of shabu, several high-powered firearms and ammunition, cellular phones and various drug paraphernalia.

One of his bodyguards, a certain Joven Senining, was shot and killed when he reportedly tried to shoot at the police.

Another award, Medalya ng Kasanayan, was also given to Chief Insp. Maribel Getigan, SPO1 Mechale Abellana and NUP Ava Marie Zorilla, all from the regional headquarters.  (FREEMAN)
