High School 2 students with marijuana nabbed

CEBU, Philippines - Two high school students, one of them a minor, were arrested after authorities seized over 100 sticks of marijuana from them in a checkpoint in Barangay Liong, Dumanjug town last Thursday noon.

Suspects Rondel Morales, 20, and Christian Gil Zozobrado, 15, both 2nd year high school students of the town’s Bitoon National High School, yielded 90 sticks of suspected marijuana.

Investigation showed that police in Dumanjug were conducting a checkpoint when the suspects passed by onboard a motorcycle and apparently were not able to evade the authorities.

Police recovered from Morales four cigarette packs containing 60 sticks of rolled paper believed to be marijuana.

Police also recovered another cigarette pack from the motorcycle’s U-box and another pack from the sling bag of the minor, who rode with Morales. Each pack reportedly contained 15 suspected marijuana sticks.

The suspects, who are residents of Barangay Bitoon, were arrested and brought to Dumanjug Police Station for while the items seized were subjected to a laboratory examination at the PNP Crime Laboratory.

Meanwhile, police arrested a homosexual who is reportedly known for selling shabu in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel, Cebu City, yesterday midnight while two high school students were also arrested in the town of Dumanjug for marijuana.

In Cebu City’s operation, police identified the suspect as Michael Moseda alias Kuting, 31, who was caught in a buy-bust operation.

Chief Insp. Renero Agustin said Moseda, a jobless resident of the place, was placed under surveillance for a month now.

“We received information a month ago nga naa’y bayot na tigbaligyaan ug shabu sa Lorega so atong gi-verify until such time nadakpan nato, (We received information a month ago about a homosexual allegedly selling shabu in Lorega so we verified the reports and it led to his arrest.)” Agustin said in an interview with The FREEMAN.

After sealing the “deal” with Moseda, Police Officers Eddiely Augusto and Arnold Cabildo acted as poseur buyers and met the suspect outside his residence in sitio Lomar.

As soon as the suspect handed over the P300 worth of suspected shabu, the poseur-buyers showed the pre-arranged signal leading to the suspect’s arrest. Moseda yielded five more packs of the same crystalline substance retrieved from his pocket.

Agustin said Moseda did not resist arrest but some of the neighbors revolted against the police prompting him to call for back-up. The situation then became normal, he said.

The operation, he said, was also carried out in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7.

Agustin said they have yet to submit Moseda to a tactical interrogation to determine his level in the illegal drug trade.

The suspect, in a separate interview, denied allegations that he is a drug pusher.

“Dili na tinuod. Wala ko kahibaw ana, (That’s not true. ) ” he said and added that he has been living with two lady friends after his parents died.

The suspect will face charges for the selling and possession of illegal drugs. — (FREEMAN)
