Mike not satisfied with Tacaldo

- The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama was dissatisfied with the performance of newly-installed Cebu City Fire Marshall William Tacaldo Jr. during the fire that hit six structures on M. Velez St. last Sunday.

“How can I be satisfied? I was looking for the equipment but I don’t see the equipment,” said Rama.

Tacaldo just assumed office last August 14 after Senior Supt. Aderson Comar was relieved and reassigned as assistant regional director for operation in the National Capital Region.

Rama has been vocal that he is against Comar’s relief saying the fire officer was doing well as Cebu City Fire Marshall.

Rama said if hardware is on fire, it should be opened immediately as cans of paints inside are highly combustible and can help spread the fire.

“Go to the spot. Do your job,” the mayor.

Tacaldo however refused to comment on Rama’s statement.

“Iya man sad nang appreciation diri nko,” Tacaldo just said when sought for comment by reporters.

Tacaldo also denied reports that he refused to pay a courtesy call on Rama saying he is only waiting for Rama’s office to schedule his visit.

The fire last Sunday destroyed six structures including a hardware.

Damage is pegged at P800,000.

Rama insisted that Comar is still his choice to head the city’s fire department although he recognized that both Tacaldo and Comar are just following orders from their superior.

He said he already asked Department of Budget and Management Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad to help him get Comar back.

Abad told Rama that he will discuss the matter with President Aquino.

Rama however said Tacaldo and Comar are just following orders from their superiors.     - THE FREEMAN
