German falls over string of cases

- Christine Emily Pantaleon - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A German national was arrested over the weekend for a string of charges including carnapping, physical injury, possession of illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearm.

Peter Maik Kimmer alias Migel Glanze, temporarily residing at D. Jakosalem Street, Barangay Zapatera Cebu City, was arrested by the operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group last Saturday based on the complaint for carnapping and maltreatment of his housemaid.

Kimmer was accused of carnapping by Emmanuel Barreto, Jr. after he failed to return a Kia Rio Sedan he rented last May 28 from Cebu Trip Rent-A-Car.

Barreto, proprietor of the rent-a-car company, said the suspect was supposed to return the car on May 30 but did not anymore show up. Barreto reported the incident to the CIDG office on August 10.

On August 11, Melody Navaja, 37, filed a complaint against the suspect for alleged maltreatment.

Navaja said she works as Kimmer’s helper at his rented house in Barangay Zapatera. Navaja alleged that the suspect grabbed her hair and pushed her head against the floor. She claimed to have been beaten up by the suspect using an electric cord, handgun and a rubber pump with a wooden handle.

Navaja said she was lucky to have escaped from the suspect and to have sought the assistance of the police.

Using a Global Positioning System installed on the car, the police were able to track the suspect in Mango Avenue last Saturday resulting in his arrest. The police seized a caliber .45 pistol with live bullets, a silencer, and a pack of shabu from his possession.

There were also personal effects like wigs recovered from him. A further check on his personal belongings yielded .357 revolver and another .38 revolver with several rounds of ammunition.

The police are still conducting background investigation on the suspect because of the possibility that he may have been involved in criminal activities because of the mask found in his personal belongings as well as the guns seized from him.       - THE FREEMAN
