CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama accused city officials affiliated with the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan of being remiss in their duties for giving focus on politics.
“Kahibaw naman ko nga wa sila nagstudyo ana. Kahibaw naman ko nga puro election nalang na ilang gihunahuna. Tan-awa ra gud na magsige og pulong-pulong,” said Rama referring to the Anti-Corporal Punishment Ordinance that the council recently passed. (I know they did not study it carefully. I know that they already thinking of the elections. They have been holding pulong-pulongs.)
Rama said that a law must go through a lot of process before it is passed.
Rama’s statement came after Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young said that the mayor’s decision to veto the ordinance does not come from his personal conviction, but as a copy-cat of Councilor Joey Daluz who was against the ordinance.
But Rama said Young’s claim was a lie. Rama said Daluz did not tell him about the ordinance. He was only shocked to learn about its passage from the media.
Rama said that instead of doing their duties, the opposition are busy putting up tarpaulins in public areas.
He added, former mayor and now Rep. Tomas Osmeña was against putting up of campaign materials before the campaign period. But now, the opposition are freely doing it.
“Asa naman ka, wapa may 45 days (campaign period)?” Rama asked.
He said he does not believe that these were done by their supporters. — (FREEMAN)
