Photo exhibit features pre-war Cebu

CEBU, Philippines - A collection of original photographs in Cebu during the American Period will be exhibited at the Marco Polo Residences on Saturday as part of the 75th Cebu City Charter Celebration.

Some 75 original photographs will be featured and exhibited in different universities and establishments after Saturday.

The photographs show what Cebu City looks like during the pre-war era.

Most of the photographs were taken in Colon Street which show how progressive the City was even before the war.

“Hamiling Binilin or Hambin (Precious Heritage)” of the History Department of the University of San Carlos said that some of the infrastructures no longer stand today.

The public is encouraged to visit the exhibit for them to learn what happened during that time.

Hambilin said that for people to be convinced to contribute to the development of the place, they must also have knowledge of the history of the place.

The photographs are part of hundreds of original photo collection of Ben Chua.

The exhibit is called Pistaym (Peace Time) since it depicts a Cebu City during the pre-war period.

The exhibit includes a photo of what the Parian Heritage Monument used to look like. – Jessica Ann R. Pareja/MIT (THE FREEMAN)
