Ex-convict shot dead inside videoke bar in Badian

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - An ex-convict who was having fun singing with his friends was shot dead inside a videoke bar in Sitio Pagbulangan, Mantuyong, Badian last Sunday evening.

Police said the 32-year-old Renato Matas succumbed to a gunshot wound in the back of his head after he was shot by a still unidentified gunman.

PO2 William Beltran, of the Badian Police Station, disclosed that Matas was at the store of Nina Ligan along the barangay road and was having a good time with his friends when two men onboard a Rusi motorcycle 125cc stopped near the store.

The man in pillion got off and pretended to buy cell phone load.

The driver of the motorcycle also disembarked and went near Matas who was singing at that time and shot him pointblank on the head.

Both assailants who were not wearing masks calmly went back to their getaway motorcycle and sped off towards Barangay Tigbao.

Those who were around failed to identify the two.

Recovered from the crime scene was an empty shell of a caliber .45 pistol believed to have come from the gunman’s firearm.

Badian police are now suspecting that personal grudge over the death of the person he killed is one of the motives for the killing.

“As of now posible lang dumot sa kaso niya sauna, (It may possibly be due to a grudge regarding his previous case.)” Beltran said.

They however did not disqualify other possible motives aside from personal grudge.

Matas was detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center after he pleaded guilty for murder several years ago.

He was released from jail last 2008. – (FREEMAN)
