Rep. Gullas elected to CA

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu First district Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas was nominated and elected last Aug. 24 as a member of the bicameral Commission on Appointments.

He replaces Iloilo City fourth district Rep. Ferjenel Biron.

Gullas used to be the vice chairman of the CA in the 14th Congress.

The veteran lawmaker is expected to be the guest speaker in the City of Naga’s 4th Charter Day anniversary celebration today.

It was Gullas who authored the House Bill that converted Naga into a city in 2007. He was also in the frontline of the battle against the nullification of this new city’s charter and that of 15 other cities with the Supreme Court which declared these 16 new cities unconstitutional.

After a long battle, however, the SC reversed its main ruling last June, thereby reinstating the city status of the affected 16 towns. — (FREEMAN)
