Twenty workers recalled from CTO
CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Michael Rama already approved the request of Market Administrator Raquel Arce for the recall of the assignment of 20 market personnel who are detailed at the City Treasurer’s Office so they can be tasked to improve the collection of taxes in the city’s public markets.
In last week’s meeting of the members of the Market Authority presided by City Administrator Jose Mari Poblete, the latter announced that effective August 15, 20 of 56 market personnel who are temporarily assigned at the CTO will be advised to report to Arce for their new tasks.
Acting City Treasurer Tessie Camarillo had requested more time to make some adjustments in her office that is why she asked that the recall of the employees be implemented only next week. Arce explained to the members of the Market Authority that her office has many work to attend to, that is why she needs additional personnel. She announced that one of her projects is to return the vacant place inside the so-called Freedom Park market.
The members of the Market Authority, composed of the City Health Officer, City Veterinarian, vendors’ representatives, assistant city administrator and others, are scheduled to inspect the Freedom Park market on Monday next week.
Poblete admired Arce because she was able to maintain order and cleanliness within the Carbon market area, particularly along F. Escaño Street and M.C. Briones to encourage more customers to visit the Carbon public market.
Arce said her office had a total of 129 personnel, but 56 of them are detailed at the Cebu City treasurer’s office and in some other City Hall offices, leaving her with only 73 employees.
Her ambitious project is to make public markets in the city competitive against supermarkets in terms of clean and safe products and most of all, in terms of prices. — (FREEMAN)
