City lacks personnel to maintain vehicles

CEBU, Philippines - A number of Cebu City Hall vehicles are not in good condition because the city lacks personnel who can do the maintenance on them.

Engr. Rene Plarizan, chief of the Equipment Repair and Maintenance Management section of the City Hall’s General Service Office, said they only have limited number of personnel to repairs on 832 assorted types of city-owned vehicles, including those already issued to different barangays.

The personnel of the Land Transportation Office-7 have observed that many of the city-owned vehicles, including garbage trucks and those vehicles issued to the Cebu City Transportation Office do not have proper lights.

“Aw kun masakpan nga wala makatuman sa balaud ang mga sakyanan sa City Hall wala’y problema kun pangdakpun sila aron motagam ang mga drayber niining maong mga sakyanan,” said General Service Office (GSO) chief Rolando Ardoza.

Ardoza believed that the concerned drivers did not bother to report the problem to their respective supervisors or department heads that is why the problem was never attended to by the City Hall.

“Kun dakpon kining maong mga drayber aw dili na man sila maka-drive so mapugos g’yud sila’g report ug kadtong uban magmatngon na,” Ardoza added.

During a press conference yesterday, Ardoza announced that under the administration of Mayor Michael Rama, the city decided to already give fuel allowance to all barangays of the city with vehicles, even if their officials are identified with the opposition.

Ardoza said the city consumes monthly an average of 25,700 liters of fuel for gasoline and 142,400 liters of diesel. Of these, 7,178 liters of gasoline and 37,300 are consumed by the barangays. (FREEMAN)
