RAFI turns over repaired classrooms in Bantayan

- Edmund C. Monisit -

CEBU, Philippines – The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Incorporated (RAFI) formally turned-over rehabilitated classrooms in six schools in Bantayan town on September 16-17.

According to RAFI's executive director Anthony Dignadice, a total of 19 rehabilitated classrooms were turned over.

Dignadice said that the recipient schools were Oboob Elementary Schools with four classrooms, and Kabangbang Central Elementary School, Sulangan Elementary School, Hilotongan Elementary School, Atop-Atop Elementary School, and Botigues Elementary School with three classrooms each.

The undertaking is the second phase completed under RAFI's School Rehabilitation Program (SRP) to transform old and dilapidated public school classrooms.

"An ocular inspection will be done to the classrooms for them to qualify for the repair," quoted Dignadice.

He pointed out that through this project would be able to provide a better learning environment.

Dignadice said that the SRP works in a unique scheme of community partnership and ownership wherein RAFI provides the materials and the local government unit for the labor.

The Parents Teachers Community Association (PTCA) of the recipient schools will oversee the project implementation and security of the construction materials.

Dignadice stressed that the foundation, through the Metaphil, the Aboitiz's construction firm, has provided construction materials worth P4.1 million for the project. As labor counterpart, the Bantayan municipal government has spent P1.57 million.

Dignadice said that project was worth a total of P5.7 million.

"This project, a partnership and a collaborative effort of the local government units, Parents-Teachers-Community Associations, Department of Education (DepEd)-Cebu Province Division, and RAFI, hopes to inspire more pupils to go to school," Dignadice told The FREEMAN. (FREEMAN)
