Benhur heads Aquaculture, Fisheries Resources Committee
CEBU, Philippines – Fourth District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon has been elected chairman of the House Committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources.
The Committee is tasked to come up with legislative action towards the continued development of the aquaculture and fisheries sectors, expanding on the goals and objectives envisioned by the 1998 Fisheries Code.
As per the Rules of the House of Representatives, the said committee has general jurisdiction over all matters relating to aquaculture and fisheries production and development.
Salimbangon's committee also has jurisdiction over the business of aquaculture and use of aquatic resources; fresh water and fisheries culture research and technology applications; aquaculture and fisheries education, training and extension; conservation of our waters and other fisheries resources as well as fishpond and fisheries culture production and development including related technical, financial and guarantee assistance programs for the fisheries sector.
Salimbangon said he will prioritize productivity increase among fisher folk and improvement and/or rehabilitation of underwater natural resources. (THE FREEMAN)
