NBI puts off operations

CEBU, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation has temporarily suspended all operations effective yesterday except on cases involving heinous crimes, dangerous drugs, firearms and terrorist activities.

The suspension of all operations was contained in Memorandum Order No. 47 issued by NBI director Nestor Mantaring. Based on the memorandum, the temporary suspension of the operations takes effect “until further notice.”

NBI-7 executive officer Ernesto Macabare said that the temporary suspension of operation is a yearly practice of their agency to avoid public perception that they are just carrying out a “caroling.”

Macabare, however, reiterated that the suspension will not cover their ongoing investigations involving heinous crimes and those involved in illegal drugs, firearms and terrorist groups.

“Kawawa naman kasi tayo ‘pag napagkamalan na nangangaroling,” Macabare said. — Fred P. Languido/MEEV (FREEMAN NEWS)
