2 killed, 1 hurt in 2 shootings

CEBU, Philippines - At least two men were shot and killed by an unidentified man Tuesday night allegedly over a land conflict in Carcar.

Police identified the fatalities as Benancio Nario, 42, and Lucino Sabaeta, 40, both farmers of the place.

Investigation showed that Nario was having a dinner with Sabaeta and his wife inside the latter’s house around 6 p.m. when a masked man barged inside, drew a firearm and shot the victims.

Nario was hit in his left face while Sabaeta was hit in his right stomach.

The assailant then fled onboard a motorcycle towards barangay Calidngan of the town.

The victims were both declared dead upon arrival at Carcar District Hospital. Their bodies now lie at Tupas Funeral Homes.

Police recovered three empty shells and a live ammunition of .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene. They also recovered live ammunition of 9 mm near the road near the victims’ house.

Police investigation showed the motive for the incident is land conflict.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man is now in critical condition after he was shot by three motorcycle-riding men yesterday dawn along V. Rama Avenue, barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Police identified the victim as Archie Añana, who works for a fast-food chain and is a resident of Don Gil Garcia Street, barangay Capitol Site.

Investigation showed that the victim was walking with his three friends around 3 a.m. when three men riding in tandem on a black motorcycle suddenly stopped and opened fire at them.

The assailants then sped up towards barangay Guadalupe.

The victim was hit in his chest and was taken by his friends to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where he is now in critical condition. — Niña G. Sumacot/LPM   (FREEMAN NEWS)
