Inmates join Holy Week observance

CEBU, Philippines – Inmates of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-7 will join in the observance of the Holy Week.

BJMP-7 officials said that despite being away from their families, inmates will have a meaningful observance of Lenten Season.

J/SInsp Mary Jane Inopia said that the Holy Week is one of the most anticipated times of the inmates.

Inopia said that activities would include confessions, the Station of the Cross, the Seven Last Words, Easter vigil, and Easter Sunday Mass, among others, provided by different religious organizations.

She said that they see to it that the inmates who are observing the Holy Week will have their time for prayer, penance and fasting.

For inmates, being in the jail is a sacrifice itself, but the different activities will help them participate in the observance of the Holy Week inside the jail facility.

Programs are implemented in all jails all through out for the welfare and development of the inmates.

But the Lenten activities “play a great role in transforming the inmates into “better” persons,” Inopia said.
