MCWD assures supply of water

-

Cebu - Metro Cebu Water District assistant general manager Ernie Delco assured their consumers in Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova town that there is nothing to worry as there will be no water interruption despite Mactan Rock Industries Inc.’s end of contract to supply them with water.

“MCWD will start supplying at the same hour, 12 in the morning to ensure that there will be no water interruption,” Delco said.

The management of MCWD sent a formal confirmation to Mactan Rock of the termination of the water supply contract.

MCWD general manager Armando Paredes in his letter to Lito Maderazo, president and chief executive officer of Mactan Rock, said that they will take appropriate measures to facilitate a simultaneous turnover/takeover of the necessary facilities.

Mactan Rock’s ten-year contract with MCWD ended yesterday and the contract was not renewed after both parties failed to agree on some of the terms and conditions.

Mactan Rock, which supplies 5,000 cubic meters daily to Cordova town and part of Lapu-Lapu City, wanted to renew their contract for another ten years but MCWD only wanted an extension of one year.

Maderazo told The Freeman yesterday that by midnight they will cease to supply water.

But Delco said that a booster pump located at the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, with a maximum capacity of 10,000 cubic meters daily was already installed and disinfected the other day.

This, along with the booster pump at the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge with a maximum capacity of 5,000 cubic meters daily, will serve as pipelines for water from the mainland to Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova town.

Delco added that MCWD’s wells in barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City, produce a maximum capacity of 45,000 cubic meters daily and at least 5,000 cubic meters daily will be distributed to the affected areas via their pipelines connected in their Southern and Northern grid.

Another source of water is the two new wells of MCWD in barangay Canduman, Mandaue City that have a capacity of 4,000 cubic meters of water daily.

Aside from these water sources, Delco said they recently awarded Abejo Builders Corporation (ABC) a contract to supply 7,000 cubic meters of waters per day to Consolacion, Mandaue, Mactan and some barangays of Cebu City.

In a meeting with the officials of ABC the other day, Delco said ABC will start supplying 3,500 cubic meters of water daily to Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova town on February this year instead of May.

Maderazo said they have to respect MCWD’s decision not to renew their contract. He also said they will offer their facilities to other interested parties who need their services. – Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
