-

CEBU - DAUIN, Negros Oriental — A member of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office has died two days after he figured in a road accident here around 8:00 p.m. last December 28.

Senior Police Office 1 George Alampay of Dauin Police Station told TheFREEMAN that Inspector Canuto Balneg, 53, a resident of Poblacion, was on his way home driving his XRM motorcycle from Dumaguete City when, upon reaching the Dauin Public Market, a pedestrian suddenly crossed the street.

Balneg, according to Alampay, tried to evade but still hit the pedestrian. As a result, Balneg was thrown from his motorcycle.

“Human malagpot sa iyang gisakyan si Police Inspector Balneg, ang iyang motorsiklo nidat-og usab niya,” Alampay said.

Balneg was rushed by responding policemen to the Holy Child Hospital in Dumaguete City and was later transferred to the Siliman University Medical Center. However, he died around 10:00 a.m. last Tuesday.

Before he was assigned as chief investigator at the police provincial office, Balneg was the former chief of police of Basay and Zamboanguita in the southern part of Negros Oriental.

He was also assigned as chief investigator of Dumaguete City Police Office. — Syril G. Repe/LPM        (THE FREEMAN)
