No solution just yet on Salcon Power row

CEBU - No concrete resolution was arrived at in yesterday’s conciliation meeting with Salcon Power Corporation and members of the Salcon Power Independent Union.

But SPIU said it would consult its members on the possibility of resuming plant-level negotiations with SPC.

Another mediation meeting will be held next week on September 15 at the National Conciliation and Mediation Board wherein a resolution is expected to be issued.

But SPIU president Gaudioso Iso said they would not hesitate to hold a strike if the Salcon management would not address the “economic provisions” they have been asking for.

The union had claimed the dispute stemmed from the management’s alleged refusal to reinstate an original provision in their collective bargaining agreement to monetize the unused vacation leaves in lieu of sick leaves of the union members.

Iso also previously said that there has been no commitment from the management to change its counter-proposal on the Article 1 Section 1 and 2 in the CBA, which is reportedly the deadlock article.

He also added that 90 percent of the union proposals and counter proposals are agreed by both panels. However, the union is still seeking assurance that the management will meet its demands. — Cressida Paula Delmo/JMO (The Freeman)
