Capitol launches pay parking system

-

Capitol launched its pay-parking system yesterday in line with the week-long celebration of the 489th founding anniversary of Cebu province.

Capitol security consultant Byron Garcia said that the system will use a radio frequency identification card that can also be used to gain access to the Capitol building.

Registered employees, VIPs and the media will be issued free cards, while guests and visitors will be given theirs upon entering Capitol premises.

The new system is seen to solve the problems of the old parking system where some employees could not find parking spaces while outsiders took their slots.

Before a vehicle exits, it has to pass first the cashier’s booth where the driver has to pay the parking rate based on the hours the vehicle was parked there.

The rate is P10 per hour regardless of the type of vehicle.

There are four parking lots, according to Garcia, but only two will be available for use by either Monday or Tuesday next week.

He also added that the spaces just outside the governor’s office as well as outside the Palace of Justice are off-limits and vehicles parked there will be towed away.  The ribbon-cutting ceremony was initiated by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Vice-Governor Greg Sanchez Jr. and Byron.

Among also those who were present were Provincial Board member Wenceslao Gakit and the different department heads.  — Joy Kareen T. Saliente/BRP
