Daanbantayan bombing suspect slain in Carcar

-

The suspect in the barangay fiesta bombing in Daanbantayan town almost 10 years ago was killed in Carcar City yesterday.

Allan Lapingcao was shot several times by an unidentified assailant at 1:45 p.m. in sitio CCYO, Poblacion III, Carcar City.

Carcar City Police Station chief Police Supt. Teofilo Siclot, who rushed to the crime scene, identified Lapingcao through a file photograph, the tattoos on his body, and accounts of witnesses.

Lapingcao was tagged in the bombing of a benefit dance during the fiesta celebration in sitio Erid, barangay Bitoon, Daanbantayan in 1999.

Two people died on the spot while three others who were seriously injured later died at the hospital. Shrapnel injured around 20 others.

Siclot said Lapingcao sustained three gunshot wounds – one in his left chest and two in the head.

Siclot suspected that the gun used in the killing was a revolver since no empty shells were recovered at the crime scene.

The police said they are further establishing the circumstances of the killing since some of the residents near the crime scene are uncooperative in their investigation.

The FREEMAN learned from interviews with nearby residents that Lapingcao was sometimes seen at the vicinity.

One woman who asked not to be identified said that the common-law wife of Lapingcao lives in the area.

Siclot said Lapingcao was already a resident of barangay Valladolid and was reportedly involved in petty crimes. He, however, was not charged.

The body of Lapingcao was taken to the Tupas Funeral Parlor and remains unclaimed as of yesterday. — Ferliza C. Contratista with Jessica Ann Pareja, UP Masscom intern/MEEV
