Vidal calls on faithful to repent, avoid sins

Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal yesterday called on the Catholic faithful to stay away from sins and repent with utmost humility and acceptance of misdeeds.

"Hinaot unta nga ato nang biyaan ang mga sala sumala sa hangyo ug hagit sa atong Mahal nga Birhen (I wish that we will leave our sins according to the pleas and challenges of our Holy Virgin)," Vidal said in his homily at the Mass for the fiesta of barangay Inayagan, Minglanilla.

Vidal enumerated the sins that people should first accept as sins before being able to repent and shun from committing again.

He said the most blatant of all sins today are dishonesty, vigilantism, corruption, lust for power and fame, and the degeneration of morality among the youth.

"And to show our repentance to these sins, we must accept that we have committed all these mistakes, that we have sinned in thought, words and in deed," the prelate said.

Vidal said that in accepting sins, we should not call our sins as errors but sin itself, and not only human frailty or a "lapse in judgment." - Jasmin R. Uy
