Mandaue jail needs P2M to build fence

Jail officials in Mandaue City are asking the city government for P2.1 million for construction of a perimeter fence.

City jail warden Jose Moring informed Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano that the construction of the perimeter fence should be given immediate attention to prevent prisoners from escaping.

Moring said the present makeshift perimeter fence is made of barbed wire and rusting metal sheets standing just a little over five feet.

The Deparment of Interior and Local Government thinks the fence is weak and vulnerable to breaching and intrusion.

At present, ten of the eleven suspects arrested during a raid of a shabu laboratory in barangay Umapad, Mandaue City at the city jail.

Jail officials also admit that the jail cells need air-conditioning units and ceiling fans.
