Alas members' availability for Asian Games depends on PVL teams — Palou
MANILA, Philippines — The ball is now in the court of the Premier Volleyball League mother clubs of the Alas women players recently named by the Philippine Olympic Committee to the Asian Games-bound team in Aichi, Japan this September.
“It will depend on the teams,” PVL president Ricky Palou told The STAR on Monday. “If the teams release their players to the NT (national team), we don’t have any problems with that.”
“Of course, we really would like the teams to release their players to the NT,” he added.
Palou also said they’re open to adjusting their schedules for the Aichi joust.
Palou was reacting a day after the POC announced the 21-player women’s pool headed by Bella Belen, Vanie Gandler and Erika Santos of Capital1, Eya Laure of Choco Mucho and Thea Gagate of ZUS Coffee that will plunge into action in Aichi.
Also from PVL are Dawn Catindig of Choco Mucho, Alleiah Malaluan and Dell Palomata of PLDT, Gel Cayuna of Nxled, Justine Jazareno, Mars Alba and Fifi Sharma of Akari, and Jen Nierva, Pangs Panaga and Jia de Guzman of Creamline.
The rest are from the collegiate leagues.
The PVL though has been generous in loaning its players to Alas in the past.
In the AVC Women’s Cup in Candon, Ilocos Sur early this month, the league allowed several of its players to suit up for Alas after most of its former members shockingly begged off.
Creamline’s Alyssa Valdez, Tots Carlos, Kyla Atienza and Kyle Negrito of Creamline, ZUS’ Jovelyn Gonzaga, and Farm Fresh’s Royse Tubino and Ara Galang were allowed to assume national team duties.
In time, these PVL teams would eventually answer the call as they did in the past.
