Dressing Up the Miss Mandaue 2019 Beauties

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Everybody knows that beauty pageants aren’t just about the candidates themselves, but also about the ensembles that they wear on stage. This year’s Miss Mandaue pageant is proof.

Dubbed “Miss Mandaue 2019 Gold Edition” and staged at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex on May 7, a number of the metro’s couturiers took it upon themselves to uphold Cebu’s reputation as “the design capital of the Philippines” by dressing up the 16 candidates in the pageant.

Banding their designs with Miss Mandaue 2019’s “timeless at 50 motif,” the creations of Rey Humberto Villegas, Alejandro Godinez Jr., and Jun Escario gave the pageant a vibrantly festive opening, swimwear, and rampada segments. The pieces exemplified how elementally simple yet strikingly standout Cebuano designers have become in their craft.

For the pageant’s eveningwear segment, designers Edwin Ao, Paco Serafica, Protacio, Irvin Lisen, Han Coquilla, Marichu Tan-Geson, Harley Ruedas, Jaypee Cabigon, Wendell Quisido, Mel Maria, Steff Tirado, Danny Booc, Dino Lloren, Philipp Tampus, Rei Escario and Elmer Divinacio presented refreshing classic cuts with contemporary lines.

Collectively, the Miss Mandaue candidates were dressed up in a thematic wanderlust that was neither overblown nor overbearing – sensibly utilitarian dressing without losing a sense of flair.
