Life is an Echo

LIFE'S ESSENCE - Katherine R. Oyson - The Freeman

A story goes: “There was a father and son who went mountain climbing. As they were on their way, they found a cave. They went inside and the boy shouted, “I love you!” A voice reverberated back, “I love you!” He again shouted, “I hate you!” The voice came back, “I hate you!” The boy was surprised and he asked, “Father, what’s that?” The father replied, “My son, life is an echo. What you send out, comes back. What you sow is what you reap. What you give, you get. Remember, life is an echo. It always comes back to you.”

One morning a friend of mine was teary-eyed when she shared with me how her daughter treated her. When she went to visit her, she recognized that her daughter was lukewarm towards her. She said, “I don’t know why she acted in that manner? Is it because I don’t have much money anymore?”

I told her that whatever the daughter did will come back to her in due time. “It may not be now, but in God’s own time. Maybe she didn’t realize that she too will eventually become old. What if her children will also treat her in the same way as she treated you? Then, by that time, she would feel the pain that you have felt now.”

I for one believe in karma. I believe that what you sow is what you reap. What you planted, you will also harvest. So it’s nice to give goodness.

Why is treating others well important?  The philosiblog.com states: “Being nice to others has benefits. The most obvious benefit is the good feeling you get when you help someone. Even if you don’t believe in karma or any kind of ‘goodwill piggy bank’, in which you deposit and gain interest, consider that the more people out there who treats others well improves your chance of being treated well also.”

Our source asks, “How do you want to be remembered? As the person who treated others well, or one who did not?  For in the end, your epitaph is the ultimate echo of your life. What you reap will be based on what you sow.

Here are some food-for-thoughts on why we should sow random acts of kindness:

• “Kindness is one of the most important things in life and shows humanity more than anything else.” – RAKtwist

• “Good words bring good feelings to the heart. Speak with kindness always.” – Rod Williams

 • “Kind people are the best kind of people.” – Unknown

 • “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

• “Kindness promotes harmony and happiness.” – RAKtivist

• “The world is full of kind people. If you can’t find one, be one.” – Unknown

• “Our days are happier when we give people a piece of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.” – Unknown

• “Kindness is showing how much you care.” – RAKtivist
