"Ecclesiastical History of Parian" at Museo Parian sa Sugbo

The Museo Parian sa Sugbo has officially opened its newest

gallery - the "Ecclesiastical History of Parian."

The gallery's formal ribbon cutting ceremony on August 8 was preceded by a lecture entitled "Citizens, Scholars and the Meaning of the Parian Church History" - where keynote speaker Fe Susan Go talked about the significance of the Parian Church and the Parian district in the history, growth and development of Cebu.

A diorama of the old Parian Church and the old Parian district now stands as the new gallery's centerpiece - affording visitors with a general bird's eye view of how the Parian area looked like in the past.

Apart from a scale model of the old Parian Church, the diorama also features a model of the Museo Parian sa Sugbo itself. The new gallery also presents informative charts on how everyday life was like in the old Parian district.

Once the residence of Jesuits doing missionary work in the Diocese of Cebu in the past, the Museo sa Parian sa Sugbo is also popularly known as the "1730 Jesuit House." The heritage site is one of the oldest structures in the country that still stands today.

The Museo Parian sa Sugbo (1730 Jesuit House) is located along Zulueta St, Parian, Cebu. For more information, you may call (32) 345-8792 or like the museum's official Facebook page. (YRST)
