Natural-Looking Makeup for School

Carlo Rivera - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Teenage schoolgirls sure love to wear makeup. And why not? The only thing is to make the makeup as natural-looking as possible, so as not to call attention to itself and draw either the curiosity or the teases of schoolmates.

Everyday school makeup shall not be very noticeable. It does not necessarily take a makeup professional to achieve the natural look. As the name suggests, it's not really that complicated to do. Here's how:

1. Clean face preferably with a non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic type of  facial wash. This kind of facial wash does not dry out pores of

the young skin of teens.

2. After washing the face, pat it with a soft face towel to dry.

3. Apply a toner using cotton to get any residue or dirt left from

the face.

4.  Afterwards, follow it up by applyinga moisturizer evenly throughout the face.

5.  Apply foundation evenly to the face using upward strokes. Try to find the lightest foundation that comes nearest to the skin tone. Apply it to  the jaw bone and temples down to the neck and make sure no streaks are seen. Let it blend perfectly.

6.  Apply concealer. Go over to the dark circles under the eyes when applying concealer and other blemishes or unattractive marks.  Blend it thoroughly first before continuing. Do this step under          good lighting.

7.Put eye shadow. Get at least  three favorite colors, and make sure to choose the one that looks good with the skin, eyes and the hair. Apply it throughout eyelid with the darkest color on the inner eye and the lightest on the outer eye (near the eyebrow but not all the way across). For school it's usually better  to stick with natural shade like brown, gray or silver; these give a look good with most eyes, skin, and hair color and  sometimes can usually pull of a                 shimmery white for dark skinned girls.

8. Before putting on the blush-on, dab the face lightly first with a compact pressed powder.

9. Apply eyeliner, either along the top of the lashes or the bottom lash line. Try to only do halfway along the lower lash line. There are two types of eyeliner: pencil and liquid. For the school, it is preferable to use pencil for a         more natural look. Liquid are best for night parties, night outs etc. because it gives an eccentric look.

10. Apply mascara. For the school, a light application of mascara is recommended for a more natural look. Try one or two brushes of a lighter color, not black.

11. Don't forget the lipstick or the lip gloss. For a finishing touch, lipsticks are always the girl's best friend. In applying lip gloss, don't apply it all over the lips. It makes the lips oily and sticky. Stay neutral.

Lastly, it helps a lot to gather makeup tips and warnings for more ideas and alternatives. Now and then, The Freeman Lifestyle Section runs good advice. Keep an eye for more.

Overall, there are really no hard-and-fast rules to makeup, only rules of thumb.
