Banana-nana

Ate Jennifer - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Minions love bananas! I’m sure you also do!

We enjoy the sweetness and the creaminess of bananas. One of the great things we love about banana is that bananas are available anywhere and sold at a cheap price. They are also portable that we can eat them anytime, anywhere since it is neatly covered with a yellow peel.

A banana is not just a fruit that we enjoy in our palates but we also enjoy its health benefits. It is rich in vitamins such as Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, potassium, dietary fiber and manganese that make our body strong and healthy.  “Banana contains vitamins that make our body healthier,” Taciana Bernas, Barangay Nutrition Scholar in Bulacao Talisay City, said. “Bananas are also good for the heart,” she added. She explained that eating bananas can help our heart function through the normal regulation of the blood. Aside from giving us the nutrients and vitamins that we need, bananas also help us increase our energy and vitality so not to feel weak.

“Bananas help us reduce stress,”  Bernas further said. Eating bananas is advisable when you’re stressed out in doing your paper works in school or when you’re involve in a continuous activity in school or in your community. Since bananas are rich in potassium, they can normalize the heartbeat by sending oxygen to the brain.

Today, there are different delicious recipes developed by our moms for us to enjoy. Bananas can be eaten whole or cut into slices to be added to fruit salads or other recipes such as banana cakes/cupcakes, smoothies, aside from the usual bananaque, toron, pinaypay and minatamis.

“Eating bananas is advisable for everybody,” Bernas concluded. (FREEMAN)
