Shangri-La at The Fort to open in 2012

Shangri-La Asia Limited, Asia Pacific’s leading luxury hotel group, recently held the foundation-laying ceremony for the Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila, the 5th Shangri-La property in the Philippines. Opening in 2012 and towering at over 60 stories high, composed of 500 guestrooms and 234 apartments, the up and coming Shangri-La at the Fort is sure to be a remarkable addition to the Manila skyline.

The mixed-use business, residential and retail tower will be located along the 5th Avenue and 30th Street within the new and fast-developing Taguig business district.

The highlight of the event was the lowering of the time capsule which was lead by Chairman of Kerry Group Limited Robert Kuok and Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

During the ceremony at the soon-to-be-built hotel site, the group was also represented by Chairman of Shangri-La Asia Ltd. Ean Kuok and President & CEO of Shangri-La Asia Ltd. Edward Kuok. A number of businessmen and government officials were also present to show their support to the group’s new project including First Gentleman Atty. Jose Miguel Arroyo, Senator Francis Escudero, Senator Loren Legarda, Senator Edgardo Angara, Congressman Henry Duenas, Jr., Taguig City Mayor Freddie

Ting, Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, and Ayala Land President and CEO Jim Ayala among others.

A two-part event, guests not only witnessed the lowering of the time capsule but also the ceremonial signing of a food security program called Feeding our Future, a joint venture amongst the Kuok Group of Companies, San Miguel Corporation, and various agencies of the Philippine government.
