Rico Means: Young singer-songwriter means business

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

Aspiring singer Rico Means believes that slowly but surely his confidence has improved a lot. If he used to be very anxious during guest stints and interviews, things started looking up since he became an R Multimedia talent.

Although he is based in Vietnam, Rico still nurtures this dream of making a name for himself in the Philippines where he traces his roots. He has been preparing for a career in showbiz and was recently seen in “Showtime Online” which Rico considers his biggest achievement to date.

He also started a new show titled “The Marupok Brothers” on KUMU with fellow R Multimedia artist Red Mendoza. And he is looking forward to more exciting showbiz-related activities until the end of the year as prepared by his management.

Rico was officially welcomed by R Multimedia Productions as one of its talents when the nine-year-old company recently celebrated its anniversary.

“I feel truly blessed to be part of R Multimedia Productions and having been given the opportunities that I have now is truly something I can’t forget. They continuously motivate me to be the best I can be,” he said.

“I love what I am doing right now so I would say that I am dedicated to the things that I love. I’m very caring. I genuinely care how your day is going and how you feel,” he said when asked about his best trait.

Of his worst trait this time, he shaared, “I am very indecisive. When it comes to tough decisions, I can’t make them on the spot. I would either regret it or not be pleased with the end result.”

When choosing a friend, Rico looks for someone who knows his priorities, is goal-oriented, God-fearing, but also knows how to let loose and have fun.

His life ambition? “To be the best singer/composer that I can possibly be. To inspire others by sharing my relatable compositions. I won’t let my dreams be wasted but I willing to go out and chase them.”

To achieve his dreams of improving his songwriting and to be the best musician he can be, Rico is taking advice and inspiration from experienced and knowledgeable people from the music industry.

When not busy composing, Rico plays video games. A certified gamer, he grew up with Playstation and other computer games. “I feel like it’s where I can be myself,” he said

He also loves watching musicals – his favorite being the just released movie “Dear Evan Hansen.” He is also studying Tagalog songs and enhancing his stories through music.

When composing songs, Rico is at his best when he is emotional. It could be the feeling of love, being heartbroken or lost. He just lets the feeling come out naturally through the song.

Rico was 12 when he discovered his love for singing but didn’t pursue the passion until he was 17. His parents didn’t know he loves singing but once they got wind of it, Rico got the support he wanted.

“They knew I love to sing but they didn’t believe at first that I have a good singing voice,” said Rico who found an instant ally in his high school vocal coach who encouraged him to take singing seriously.

Rico, who turned 20 last January, is partial to ballads. He grew up listening to Ed Sheeran, but he also likes Chris Brown and Frank Sinatra.

One his songs titled “I’m Dreaming” is still on Spotify. He is in the process of recording new songs intended for release soon.
