Fans delighted with unplanned Sharon-Gabby duet

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

The duet of Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion at the Gabay Guro event last Sunday at the MOA Arena was a spur of the moment decision.

At the media conference of the “Iconic” concert of Sharon and Regine Velasquez held Monday at the Luxent Hotel, the Megastar said she was surprised because there was no plan for her and Gabby to sing together.

Sharon said she didn’t know Gabby was at the event. Gabby asked a friend of Sharon if they can talk and the actress said time has passed and they are okay. So they talked and there was no problem.

Also at the event for teachers were exes Pops Fernandez and Martin Nievera who were kidding each other.

Sharon was very pleased with the reaction of the crowd and how warm they were towards her and Gabby.

She said her chemistry with Gabby is still there even if they already have separate lives. Sharon even remembered that last Monday was supposed to be their 35th wedding anniversary. They were wed on September 23, 1984.

“It was nice to show everyone na okey na kami, naayos na, hindi na kami magkagalit,” added Sharon.

Regine, a self-confessed Sharonian and die-hard Sharon-Gabby fan, asked her co-singer if it was still possible for the former screen partners to do a movie.

“I can’t speak for him. Let’s just hope. If you’ll ask me, I’m open to it. I have no problem with it. I’m a professional actor,” said Sharon.

“Based on last night’s reactions and the requests we’re getting on social media, I think it will be nice to work with him again.”

Someone said that Kris Aquino is interested to produce the Sharon-Gabby reunion movie. But Sharon said a lot of quarters already expressed interest to produce their reunion flick.

“Let’s see who’s going to win the bidding if there would be one. We don’t even know if there’s going to be a movie. Pwede rin naman na kami na lang (ang mag-produce) if ever. So, bahala na. Bahala na si Lord,” she said.

This early, Regine is volunteering to be a passerby in a scene if the Sharon-Gabby reunion flick pushes through just to be able to say she was part of their film.

Sharon, 53, mentioned that when she turns 55 years old, she will consider slowing down in her career. This is what she meant with her social media post about semi-retirement.

She will probably do just one movie, show or concert and won’t be as active before. She will just choose the projects she likes. She felt drained and showbiz has changed a lot.

“I will not allow showbiz to eat my person. I will not allow it to change my soul,” she said.

Sharon also mentioned that it is her dream to do a movie with Regine who is very vocal in saying that she is her idol and still gets star-struck with her.

Sharon and Regine are collaborating musically on “Iconic,” a concert directed by Rowell Santiago to be staged at the Araneta Coliseum on October 18 and 19. They are doing a lot of duets and medleys but they don’t want to reveal anything aside from that. They want the audience to be surprised.

Incidentally, the most expensive platinum tickets were sold out weeks ago.

Tony Labrusca admits that the much-talked about “Glorious,” the iWant TV movie he did for Dreamscape together with the very beautiful Angel Aquino boosted his career.

He had been dreaming to do a project with Dreamscape so when the offer came to do “Glorious,” he didn’t think twice and accepted it right away.

“Glorious” made Tony popular and he believes this is probably why director Jason Paul Laxamana picked him to be a part of “Ang Henerasyong Sumuko sa Love.”

In “Ang Henerasyong Sumuko sa Love,” Tony’s role is no sex object. He is playing Kurt, a millennial determined to make it big in his career. But he realized it won’t do him good to compare himself to other people in social media in terms of success. He became so competitive in terms of achievements, to the point that he became sad and depressed.

But in real life, Tony is one cool guy. He knows his limits and what he wants. He has goals to achieve but he won’t reach the point that he will abuse himself just because he wants to be successful.

“Ang Henerasyong Sumuko sa Love” also stars Myrtle Sarrosa, Albie Casino, Jerome Ponce and Jane Oineza. The film from Regal Entertainment opens Oct. 2 in cinemas.
