Hugh Jackman’s choice as next Wolverine

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Should Hugh Jackman’s time as the famous X-Men mutant Wolverine come to an end, he has an idea of who could become a good successor.

The hunky Aussie was recently asked by MTV to name which Hollywood leading man he’d want to pass the claws off to. “I haven’t really given it a lot of thought,” Jackman said of his replacement.

“I’ve been asked that question a lot, and I’m always like, ‘I don’t wanna make it too easy on the studio to replace me,’ you know?  I’ve still got one more to do. I’m sure they’re already talking about it, and there’s some actor [they’ve told] ‘Shh, keep it quiet but we want you next.’”

However, he does have someone in mind. “He’s younger than me for sure. I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine.”

Although Jackman teased that he’s rocking the claws for the last time back in March, he also revealed in another interview early this year that he’d like to play Wolverine until he dies.

“Every time I play Wolverine I want to go further, physically and emotionally,” he began, and explained how watching Michael Keaton in “Birdman” inspired him.

“I said to my wife, ‘The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I’ve got to find a way to keep playing him until I die.’ I know that someday they’ll recast the role with another actor. I’d be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic.”

When asked about playing the character again, Jackman said, “I just figure it’s a question of age. As long as I can get the claws up without taking a little blue pill, then I’m fine with it.”
