Mindy Kaling has babies on the brain

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Hear that? That’s the sound of Mindy Kaling’s biological clock ticking.

The actress plays an obstetrician on “The Mindy Project,” the half-hour Fox rom-com she created in 2012 that’s paired her with a wide range of love interests (Seth Meyers and Seth Rogen, to name a few). Now, at age 35, the single star says she’s ready to settle down. “This has been the first year I realized that if I want to have three kids, I need to get going,” Kaling says.

Of course, there are perks to being single and childless—particularly when you’ve got a schedule like Kaling’s. “In my 20s, I was not only boy crazy, but marriage and relationship crazy. Now it’s almost the opposite,” she says in Flare’s October 2014 issue. “My work is so rewarding and I’m so self-centered about it that I’m kind of excited about not having to go home and ask someone about their day.”

Critics generally adore “The Mindy Project,” though Kaling wishes the Fox sitcom’s ratings were higher. “I come from a hit show [“The Office”], and I am competitive and a perfectionist. So for me, ratings do count. Wednesday mornings, I always check, and it affects my demeanor for a while.”

Over the years, Kaling has tweaked her character’s personality a bit. “I don’t think about it a ton, but I was surprised by how much not just men, but also women, felt like they wanted her to be less selfish,” she says. “Because the show has this romantic aspect to it, Mindy Lahiri can’t be as edgy as I thought at the beginning.”

The show is grounded in reality, but Kaling notes that some elements—including the set, for example—are unrealistic. “Whenever I walk in there, I think, ‘Man, I wish my OB/GYN had an office like that. I think sometimes our show is seen as breezier than it is, because it looks beautiful and the people are dressed really well,” she says. “On a lot of shows, the aesthetic is kind of cruddy, which seems to equal really funny, which I don’t think is correct. If you’re looking for this vérité thing, watch a documentary.”

Emmy Rossum: ‘Texting can be dangerous’

While Emmy Rossum’s Cosmopolitan cover was presumably shot weeks ago, her comments inside the issue are suddenly extremely timely, considering the nude photo scandal that has recently shaken Hollywood to its core.

“I once found a guy I was dating dirty-texting another woman and I completely lost my s--t,” the 27-year-old “Shameless” star tells the mag. “Texting is so dangerous! I won’t even give guys my number, because I know me. We’ll start texting, he’ll start emoticon-ing, I’ll start emoticon-ing, and soon we have a big mess. I’m a very flirty person in general.”

Still, despite her flirtatious attitude, she insists she’s nothing like her character Fiona on the hit Showtime series. “I feel like on the first date with a guy he’ll think I’m easy [like Fiona], and that’s so disconcerting,” she revealed before admitting that her hookups typically develop into a serious romance.

As for her type? “I don’t gravitate to the jock; it’s the nerdy guy in the corner,” she confessed. “I’m dating a writer now [Sam Esmail, the writer-director of her film ‘Comet’]. Writers are sexy.”

Rossum was also asked if she would ever take another walk down the aisle after being married to a music executive from 2008 to 2010.

“I hope I do. Honestly, I was so young, I don’t think I knew what marriage meant. My parents were never married, and I was teased in school and called a bastard. So the idea of marriage as safety forever was idealized in my head, and we rushed into it.”

Kate Hudson slams eating disorder rumors

Kate Hudson wants to shoot down the rumors about one thing in her life: her weight.

The actress, who graces the October cover of Red magazine, says, “If there is one thing I will never have, it is an eating disorder. I won’t have girls—even if it is just one or two who care—thinking that. Because it is a serious sickness, not something to plaster on the cover of a magazine. And I am the opposite.”

She also addressed gaining 70 pounds during her first pregnancy and explained how she wants to send the right message to women everywhere.

“I want girls to love themselves. I want them to feel good about who they are. The thing is, I’m lucky because I was loved. But I have seen so many young women who can’t feel good about themselves because they just don’t have that love.”

The bubbly blonde also opened up about putting her wedding planning to Muse frontman Matt Bellamy on the back burner, for now.

“I’m not in a rush. We are basically married. It’s really about when are we going to take the time to plan a wedding,” she said, also noting that she wears her engagement ring every so often due to its size.

And lastly, Hudson confessed that her fun-loving mama, Goldie Hawn, ran a tight ship at home when she was growing up.

“Oh, if there were drugs being smoked in our house I would have gotten a wooden spoon upside my head. They were tough, fun and cool, but they were not hippy-dippy parents. If I’d come home with a tattoo, they’d have told me to find an apartment. But cut to years later, we all have a tattoo!”

How Tom Brady gets Gisele Bundchen’s attention

In the latest issue of Man of the World magazine, hot football star Tom Brady reveals the tactics he uses at home on his supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen.

“I like attention from her, so when I’m not getting it I let her know in immature ways, like a young, immature child would,” the 37-year-old sports star says. “You throw fits and you pout and you whine until you get what you want.”

Brady added, “She’s on to me, she knows all of my tricks. So now I have to learn new tricks.”

Meanwhile, Brady admits he keeps his Patriots playbook next to his bed at home. “My wife speaks five languages,” he dished. “I always tell her I speak two: English and football.”

As for his mindset when he hits the football field, Brady says, “In a weird way, even though it’s hyper-intense, I really am my true self out there. I can be who I am without having to be polite or having to be on. If someone messes up, I can let them know. If I want to be excited, I can be excited. If I want to be pissed, I can be pissed. I’m more myself in front of 70,000 people.”

Claire Danes on the riot that is motherhood

Claire Danes is opening up about the challenges of motherhood.

In the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, the 35-year-old actress, who gave birth to son Cyrus in December 2012, says parenting isn’t always easy. “Being a mum is incredibly challenging, but we still feel a pressure to talk about it in very romantic terms. And it’s not just that,” Danes tells the magazine.

“We all have that resentment at times and anxiety about being trapped by the role, that responsibility. And then chemically it can run riot...And there’s no ‘off’ button. [For me] that was the hardest adjustment. You always feel beholden to somebody. And for so long they’re like koala bears, you just feel a physical responsibility to be there for them to cling to. It’s pretty primal,” she continues.

Motherhood woes aside, Danes says little Cyrus is experiencing adorable firsts all the time. “He’s kind of revealing himself to be a bit of a ham,” she says, “which shouldn’t really be a surprise. A babysitter gave him a kiss goodbye and now he does ‘Mwah, mwah’ to everybody. Or he says ‘Ciao.’ It’s ridiculous. I did not teach him that. He sings ‘Ee-eye ee-eye oh’ to himself all the time. And he’s a toddler, so he says ‘No’ and ‘More’ a lot and he’s just started to have temper tantrums. It’s scary.”

Danes also gushed about her hubby Hugh Dancy. “I’m genuinely in love with him,” she said, adding, “And I like hard things. You know, marriage is hard, but I’m up for it. I don’t do anything casually so dating is not for me. I would be marrying everyone I was with. When I met Hugh I was single for the first time and really looking forward to it, kind of bragging, ‘I’m going to rock this.’ Then I met Hugh...But I like getting into [a relationship]. It’s more fun [than being single]. There’s so much opportunity if you are interested in each other to go further. It’s kind of a beautiful exercise.”

Daniel Matsunaga wants to become a naturalized Filipino

Brazilian-Japanese model and “Pinoy Big Brother All In” Big Winner Daniel Matsunaga wants to obtain Filipino citizenship through naturalization, he reveals in “Tapatan Ni Tunying” airing this afternoon.

Daniel also intends to convince his family in Brazil to live in the Philippines.

“I’m planning to bring my whole family here. I want to stay here for the rest of my life,” Daniel says. “I’m just waiting for my father to retire from his job. He said maybe after two years.”

The model, who is also a professional football player, says he wants to join Azkals to play for the Philippines.

“I’ll try to enroll in Azkals. I really want to be part of it. Every opportunity that God has given me in the Philippines is amazing. I never had this in my entire life so I really love this country,” Daniel says.

Amid criticisms that he did not deserve to win the hit reality show “Pinoy Big Brother” because of his citizenship, Daniel reiterates that he considers himself a true Filipino.

“We can’t choose where we are born, but we choose where we belong. I’ve been living here for five years. I’m a Filipino,” he insists.

He also quips, “If it’s needed for me to have a drop of Filipino blood, I am willing to get it from Makati Med. My heart really belongs here.”

This episode of “Tapatan Ni Tunying” also features Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman in a separate interview, where she reveals her plan of retiring from government work in 2016.

Secretary Soliman, who has served as the DSWD secretary for both former President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo and President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s administration, compares and shares her observations on the two leaders.

Don’t miss “Tapatan ni Tunying” this Thursday at 4 p.m. on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold. For updates, follow @TNTunying on Twitter and Instagram, or like its Facebook page www.facebook.com/TNTunying. (PR)

Program host Jay Taruc and the team of “Motorcycle Diaries,” together with veteran rider Joey Almeda, take on this exciting expedition filled with heartwarming stories of people, culture, food, tourist destinations, and Filipinos living in Europe.

Tonight, for the first part of the team’s Europe Expedition, Jay and his team visit Austria and Germany.

In Austria, Jay gets to attend a motorcycle conference and witness an exhilarating freestyle aerial stunt performance from the motorcycle group FMX4ever. Jay also gets the rare chance to visit the industrial plant of KTM – one of the most famous motorcycle brands in Austria. Here, he meets Pinay engineer Ardaye–the only Filipino worker in the said company.

And as the team arrives in Salzburg, Austria, they are able to see the house of no less than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Joining them as they tour the city is Rosana, a Filipina who has been living in Salzburg for almost three decades already.

From Austria, their next stop is Munich, Germany. Here, they visit Marienplatz or St. Mary’s Square, which is famous for the architectural style of its buildings including the Neues Rathaus or Munich’s new City Hall. With the help of another Filipina, Lura, and her German husband, Jay gets to taste the authentic German dish Schweinshaxe and beer from the Augustiner Brewery, one of the oldest breweries in Munich dating back to 1328!

The Europe Expedition also highlights Jay’s visit to world-renowned travel destinations including the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, St. Peter Square in Vatican City, as well as the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris.  Also, Jay didn’t pass up the chance to ride a gondola in Venice. And onboard their motorcycles, Jay and the team tour the awe-inspiring tourist spots in Rome.

But just when everything seems to be going smoothly for the team, they then discover that their van has been robbed and most of their belongings missing! How will the team face this dilemma?

Catch all these in Motorcycle Diaries’ five-part Europe Expedition, beginning this Thursday, 10 p.m., on GMA News TV. (PR)(FREEMAN)
