Usage surge bogs down BPI online transactions

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) earlier announced yesterday that clients can once again avail of online and mobile services but warned of slower processing of transactions due to surge of usage following the three-day systems upgrade.

An official statement from the bank said that while the banking channels are already available for usual financial transactions, the bank is asking customers’ to bear with slower online processing due to surge of usage.

“We expect usage traffic and access to normalize within the course of the day,” said the bank’s statement issued Friday.

Meanwhile, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) yesterday confirmed that BPI is still facing post migration problems following its systems upgrade.

“The BSP is aware of the post migration challenges encountered by BPI after the recent upgrade of its core banking system,” BSP Deputy Governor Chuchi Fonacier said in a press statement.

The Ayala-led bank has undergone systems upgrade starting Friday last week until Sunday. But the lender admitted on its social media account on Thursday that its platforms were encountering issues following the upgrade.

Despite the bank’s assurance, some clients claimed that wrong balances have been reported, among other inconveniences.

BSP on the other hand, vowed to closely monitor BPI’s systems upgrade development.
