BIR requires accreditation for receipt–printing devices

Carlo S. Lorenciana - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Bureau of Internal Revenue has mandated the accreditation of all cash registers, point-of-sale (POS) machines and other receipt-printing devices.

In Revenue Memorandum Circular 68-2015, the BIR told developers, dealers, suppliers, distributors and pseudo-suppliers of these machines to secure accreditation from the agency before selling them. Pseudo-suppliers are those who either directly import POS devices or develop their own receipting machines.

The accreditation, which is valid for five years from the issuance date, should only be processed at the agency’s national office through the National Accreditation Board (NAB). The accreditation's renewal should be done within 60 days prior to the expiration of the validity period.

“Only BIR-accredited CRM/POS/other sales machines/receipting software shall be used by business taxpayers,” the BIR noted.

Businesses acquiring sales receipt-printing devices from abroad should also seek BIR’s accreditation.

For new applicants, the BIR said they are to enroll at its Electronic Accreditation and Registration system.  (FREEMAN)
