Performance coaching in the workplace pushed

- Grace Melanie L. Lacamiento - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines -  AGF Consulting Group – Philippines encouraged companies from various sectors to incorporate performance coaching among employees that would eventually result to the improvement of the latter’s productivity and attainment of the former’s goals.

Jane Frias, senior trainer of AGF Consulting Group, emphasized the relevance of coaching and mentoring programs in enhancing the services of the company through the evaluated performance of the workforce.

She added that an effective coaching culture should be able to promote open communication and establish respect, trust and understanding between the top management officials and employees.

Regular coaching conversations, she said, ensure that individual and group performances of the workers are aligned with the goals of the company.

She cited that it is also a two-way relationship wherein the top management gives feedback and listens as employees disclose their sentiments and ideas.

“You base it at the present but you are looking at the future. Coaching is a commitment of both parties where we do a lot of listening. Unlike before, people work for they need money. The culture now is that we look into the hearts of the people and find what makes them happy and what motivates them,” she continued.

Aside from giving feedbacks to employees, she said that companies should also practice performance appraisal and rewards and recognition program as part of an efficient coaching system.

“In most cases, it would really help. For me, rewards are the good job itself. Recognition is already a bonus. At the end of the day, you realize you are doing a good job and others acknowledge it.

Companies from the business process outsourcing industry,” Frias added.

Normally represented by supervisors, managers, peer coaches and co-employees, she noted that coaches should understand themselves first, possess self-control, empathy, good social skills and value equality.

She then advised companies to apply the principles of coaching and mentoring in their organizations towards their improved performance as a whole and as individuals.

“If you make better people out of coaching, it will not only help the company grow in the long run but also the individual himself. Coaching and evaluation system should be implemented in all industries,” she stated.

Dubbed as “How to Develop an Employee Performance Management System,” AGF Consulting Group conducted a two-day seminar from September 12 to 13 at Cebu Parklane International Hotel. — (FREEMAN)
